November Change – 4.5″ x 4.5″ Mosaic

November Change – 2012
4.5″ x 4.5″ Mosaic on Rives BFK Paper

Inspired by the changing of the leaves. I decided to make a flower with autumn colors. As for the background I used one chocolate Tootsie Pop wrapper instead of a mix of colors. Being a small mosaic, some of the material does need to be recognized to show what the art is made from. This opens up other possibilities with future work. Labels used are tagged in the image with thinglink. Notable wrappers include orange Starburst wrappers, Alaskan Summer Ale, Shiner Hefeweizen and Pomegranate Tootsie Pop. Spread the word about my art and Pin it to your boards. If you enjoy Instagram, please follow me @recycledmosaics

The Boxer – 12 x 18 Mosaic

The Boxer – #Mosaic made with #recycled candy and drink labels

About the Mosaic

12″ x 18″ on panel board, the boxer mosaic is made with Stash Chocolate Hazelnut tea wrappers, Orange Shiner Hefenweizen labels, See’s Candy and imported chocolate bar labels, and various purple labels in the background. I decided to make an animated .gif to show the process from an iPhone picture into Illustrator and the final version. As much as it gets muddy in the process, it’s good to prep the subject as much as possible. On this mosaic I loosened up a bit in order for the labels to stand out better. In other words, not over thinking the process. Turned out great! This is the second dog I’ve made, with the other being a brindle Boston Terrier.

Suntaker #4 – 4.5″ x 4.5″ Mosaic

Suntaker #4 – Mosaic of a sunflower made with recycled candy and drink labels

Suntaker #4 – 2012
4.5″ x 4.5″ Mosaic on BFK Rives Paper

I took this picture on the side of the road where I work here in North Fort Worth. Somehow there’s still a lot of sunflowers still blooming in 100 degree heat. This is one of four small mosaics I made in prepwork for my school’s alumni exhibit. I’m glad I learned how to work small and on paper. I didn’t think it would be possible. Most of the labels used in the mosaic are Shiner Bock beer labels, Lemon Starburst wrappers, Snapple Peach Iced Tea and Mary Jane candy wrappers. Spread the word and Pin it to your boards.

Cosmos2 – 4.5 x 4.5 Mosaic

Cosmos2 – Mosaic made with recycled candy and drink labels

Cosmos2 – 4.5″ x 4.5″ Mosaic on BFK Rives paper

This is number three of five mosaics made in prepwork for an upcoming exhibit I’m participating in this September. By this time, I was getting the hang of the small area to work with as the exhibits requirements were on a 5 x 5 piece of BFK Rives paper. It’s not the ordinary surface I use, however I am glad I did give it a spin and it came out just fine. Labels used are several red and dark pink Starburst wrappers, some Shiner Bock yellow beer labels and Cherry Tootsie Pop wrappers. Giclee prints are available for purchase in the store. Be sure to Pin it to your boards and share with others.

Pink Magnolia – Recycled Mosaic
4.5″ x 4.5″ on BFK Rives paper

This is one of five mosaics I created for an upcoming exhibit I’m participating in September. Being the first one, I was surprised I could work this small as my usual working size is 12 x 18 or larger. Also, I usually use a thicker surface. So this was a challenge on all sides, and it turned out great. Labels and wrappers used are most of the Starburst Reds from the Strawberry flavor down to the dark red Fruit Punch wrapper. Be sure to check out my store and order prints of this mosaic and others. Also, please pin it and tell others.

Pressed Flower – 18 x 24 Mosaic

Pressed Flower – #Mosaic made with #recycled candy and drink labels

About the Mosaic

An 18″ x 24″ on pressboard and done in low relief, this sunflower mosaic is a must see in person. To give the art the low relief three dimensional look, I incorporated various thickness of cardboard then finishing the surface with monopoly property cards before adding the color of the candy wrappers and drink labels. Giclee prints are available to purchase with a finish size of 9″ x 12″, signed and numbered to 400. In September 2012, this will be on display here locally in Fort Worth, Texas at Fort Worth Community Arts Center coinciding with the city’s Gallery Night.
